"EU-GUGLE, European Cities serving as Green Urban Gate towards Leadership in Sustainable Energy, is promoted by the “European Association of Innovation for Smart Cities and Communities”, whose aim is to promote best practices on sustainable renovation issues.
European cities account for 70% of the energy consumption in the Old Continent and 40% of the total consumption comes from buildings. The percentage shows the importance of decreasing energy consumption in buildings for Europe to meet its energy reduction target, which stands at 20% for 2020. In this context, the European Union has implemented an ambitious pilot project in 6 European countries, with a city for each territory.
In the case of Spain, the chosen one is Sestao. Together with this city from Vizcaya, Aachen (Germany), Milan (Italy), Tampere (Finland), Vienna (Austria) and Bratislava (Slovakia) also participate in this experience.
